Charloette, or by his nickname "Charlie", is a saddle tank engine who loves to tell jokes and have fun. He use to work on the mainland railway and was their favorite engine. Charlie enjoys teasing the engines and generally leads them into trouble.


Charlie first arrived on Sodor to help out on the railway. Thomas became jealous of him, when Percy exclaimed that Charlie more fun Thomas. When Thomas was to show him around, Charlie convinced him to have fun instead of working. Charlie challenged Thomas to a race to on the rickety track. However, the coupling between Thomas and Annie became loose; Thomas had to find Annie, Clarabel, and Alicia Botti. Charlie wanted to race him again, but Thomas was stern and he decide to bring Alicia Botti to her concert.

Once, Edward had to bring the Fat Controller's car to the mechanic. Charlie says that Edward is too old to be a fun engine. He convinced Edward to have fun instead of delivering the Fat Controller's car to the mechanic. When they arrive at Maron, Thomas told Edward that the mechanic has just left on Bertie. Edward and Charlie chased after Bertie, but they didn't catch up to him. This causes more chaos when Edward suggested repairing the car at the Sodor Steamworks. When everything was put right, Charlie agreed that Edward is really useful and fun too.

During Winter, Percy, Edward and Stanley had broken-down. Thomas decide to hold a Christmas party at the Steamworks, but he didn't tell Victor. Thomas asked Charlie to quietly tell his jokes at Steamworks. However, Charlie was not very good at being quiet and Victor ordered him and Thomas to leave. Thomas quickly reverses, and carelessly backs into Charlie who became derailed. Later, Thomas told Victor about the party and soon the Steamworks is decorated for Christmas. Charlie's jokes made Percy think it is the best party ever!

Charlie can be cheeky at times, and enjoys teasing the other engines. He laughed at Flynn, who was traveling on the roads and Flynn was worried about his wheels wobbling. Charlie called him a "big red wobble on wheels", this hurt Flynn's feelings and effected his work. However, he learnt that he was a "big red hero on wheels" and when he met Charlie again Flynn didn't mind Charlie's teasing joke.

Henry told Charlie that he does not like snow, Charlie offered of a joke to cheer him up but Henry puffed sadly away. Charlie wanted to show him that snow can be fun. Later, Charlie hid behind some trucks and pretended to be a talking snowman, which made Henry rather scared. Charlie admitted that he was the talking snowman and apologized to Henry. Charlie realized that everyone has different opinions about snow.

Charlie is a small and playful engine. Charlie provides lots of entertainment for the children and he enjoys their company. He hardly gets any work done, but he is always ready to help out a friend in need.

Behind the Scenes

Charlie was introduced into the CGI era of the television series, and never received a full scale model. Charlie has a permanent lamp attached to his funnel.


Charlie is a Manning Wardle L Class 0-6-0ST. His twin Billy is another member of this class.


Charlie is painted purple with gold and white trim and red wheels. He has the number fourteen painted in gold on his sides.


  • Since Charlie and Billy have the same basis, it may be possible for Charlie's model to be re-rendered into Billy; Thus making a possible return in the near future.
  • Charlie rarely takes things seriously; everything is fun and games to him. This can be a negative effect on the engines around him.
