Daisy and Other Thomas Stories, later retitled Percy Takes the Plunge, is a US VHS/DVD featuring one first series episode, five second series episodes and one third series episode narrated by George Carlin. It was distributed by Strand Home Video in 1993, Time-Life in 1994, Video Treasures in 1995 and Anchor Bay Entertainment in 1995 and 2000, and it was released on DVD in 2008 including a song.

Meet Daisy, a "classy sassy passenger diesel," as well as Trevor, the very useful tractor engine. You'll see why Percy's up to his funnel in water, Gordon looks foolish, and Henry is proud, in their adventures through the Island of Sodor.

Trivia

  • The filedates of the 2008 DVD show that it was finished on November 21, 2007.
  • This release was made specifically to release Daisy and Percy's Predicament onto home media in America as part of a compromise with Rick Siggelkow who disapproved of Daisy's design, excluding both stories from being seen on Shining Time Station. This release and merchandise of Daisy in the States were now finally allowed at the time this VHS tape was released.[1]
  • The audio overlaps on most copies, The DVD features the intro, nameboards, and most episodes being sourced from other videos, with only Daisy and Percy Takes the Plunge untouched.
  • Some Strand Home Video and all Time-Life copies do not have the overlapping soundtrack.
  • When first advertised, the prototype cover featured the long cloud.
  • This is the only VHS/DVD for a few things:
    • The only US VHS/DVD to feature George Carlin's narration of the episode, Percy Takes the Plunge.
    • The only US VHS/DVD release to feature the episode, Daisy.
    • The only non-sampler DVD originally distributed by Anchor Bay not included in any DVD boxsets.
  • This was the first VHS to have "& Other Thomas Stories" in its title.
  • This is the last VHS/DVD for a few things:
  • The Strand Home Video front cover features a promotional image from Daisy's nameboard sequence.
  • After the credits on some 1993 VHS copies, the Strand Home Video logo is missing at the end.
  • A prototype version of the VHS cover shows Daisy's nameboard.
  • This is the first Thomas VHS to feature stories that were not featured on Shining Time Station or re-narrated by George Carlin for said show.
  • The 1993 Strand Home Video release of the front cover has the Britt Allcroft logo smaller, while the Time-Life edition has the logo larger.
  • This is the first VHS to use the standard cloud, and the only Strand Home Video release to have the standard cloud.
  • Some of the 1995 Anchor Bay tapes have the Strand Home Video logo instead of the Video Treasures logo.
  • Like the 1995 release of Thomas, Percy and the Dragon and Other Stories, the Embassy Home Entertainment FBI Warning screen is used right before the Video Treasures logo rather than that of Video Treasures.
  • This was one of two US DVDs to feature the animated 2008 Anchor Bay Entertainment logo, the other being Trackside Tunes.
  • The credits were reused on later releases of Thomas Gets Tricked and Other Stories.
  • The 2008 DVD release uses the series 3 intro, but the audio is from the stereo series 4 intro.
  • The Target exclusive DVD version featured a watery pouch behind the transparent image of the front cover. It also came in a clear glass-style DVD case.
  • On the back cover of the DVD release, an image from Thomas' Day Off is used.
  • This is the first US DVD release where the title differs greatly from the VHS title. This was also repeated on the Henry and the Elephant DVD, as well as the 2009 Lionsgate re-releases of Hop on Board: Songs and Stories, Really Useful Engines, Harvey to the Rescue, The Runaway Engine and Pop Goes the Diesel.
  • On both DVD covers, Percy is smiling as he splashes into the water.
  • Despite being the episode title and focus, the episode, Percy Takes the Plunge is actually the seventh and final episode on this DVD.
  • The layout of the episode selection menu is similar to that of The Early Years.

Goofs

  • On the back cover of the VHS, Saved from Scrap is listed as the last episode.
  • The VHS captions misspell Sir Topham Hatt's name without the second T in Hatt.
  • The VHS captions spell Jem Cole's first name as "Gem."
  • The VHS captions misspell Clarabel's name as "Clarabelle."
  • Despite the yellow sun on the original covers saying "Stories as seen on Shining Time Station," the stories Daisy, Percy's Predicament and George Carlin's dub of Saved From Scrap were never seen on said show.
  • The 2000 Anchor Bay release has the Britt Allcroft logo out of sync.
  • The description says, "See what happens when Percy ends up to his funnel in water..." but the water only went up to his chin.
