The River Hoo starts in a marsh just west of Ballahoo (north of Great Waterton in the television series ). It flows thirteen kilometres in a southeast direction into a bay south of Norramby .
In the television series, the Trestle Bridge and the Sodor River Bridge cross the River Hoo which ends where The Wharf is located. The Main Line , Stepney's Branch Line and the Norramby Branch Line all cross over the river.
