“Watch out for the viaduct, it's dangerous!”
― Mr. Conductor, Thomas and the Magic Railroad

The Big Dipper was a large two-track viaduct made of stone. It is located on the Kirk Ronan Branch Line.

History

Thomas and the Magic Railroad

When Mr. Conductor was captured by Diesel 10, he discovered that the Big Dipper was beginning to collapse as a result of the world losing its energy, caused by his gold dust crisis. Diesel 10 fell into a barge of sludge on the river below, after failing to jump the gap in pursuit of Thomas and Lady who were able to cross safely. It is unknown if it was repaired afterwards.

Behind the Scenes

The Big Dipper was only seen in the 2000 film Thomas and the Magic Railroad. However, parts of it were seen in the Jack and the Sodor Construction Company episodes, Jack Owns Up and Percy Helps OutDavid Axford stated on SiF that it may have been the same viaduct model.

The collapse was achieved by having a fishing wire attached to a spring pivot inside that when released allowed the crumbling sections to be dropped.[1]

Trivia
