Trouble in the Tunnel is a Step Into Reading book released in the summer of 2010 published by Random House.
Plot
Thomas, Bash, and Dash are shunting flatbeds of Jobi Wood inside a tunnel. Suddenly the tunnel starts crumbling and they are trapped! Thomas notices a small hole above him and puffs out "smoke signals" from his funnel. Percy sees the smoke from Brendam Docks and goes for help, and the engines are soon rescued.

Trivia
- This book is based on the 2010 special, Misty Island Rescue.
- This is the final book until A Valentine for Percy to feature Richard Courtney's original art directional design of the faces for the engines as later books he would illustrate would have their faces be based on the CGI style of the series.

- The Misty Island Tunnel is illustrated with a double track, but it's meant to be a single track.
