Lady the Golden Engine

Lady is a Victorian steam engine.

Bio

Lady was wrecked by Diesel 10 long ago. She is brought back to life after being stored at Muffle Mountain for years, and helped Thomas defeat Diesel 10. She is owned by retired engineer Burnett Stone.

In "Calling All Engines", she and Rusty appeared in a dream to Thomas. She told Thomas how to resolve the problems Sodor was facing.

Appearances

Lady appeared in "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" and was a major plot device.

She also appears to Thomas in a dream in the feature length "Calling All Engines".

There is a rumor that she mysteriously appears in The Great Discovery where she helps Thomas unknownly. She then seems to reappear, watching the festival of Sodor Day

Livery

Lady is painted in a purple-red livery with gold head lamps on each sides, gold buffers, front boiler and funnel, gold on the top, gold lining and her name on each side in gold.

Basis

Lady was the first character to not be based on any real locomotive prototype, but it has been suggested that she bears some resemblance to Gladstone, the steam locomotive featured in the British 1936 film, Oh, Mr. Porter! (K&SER Northiam with the rear cab cut off and an enlarged chimney). She is also said to be based on "Lively Polly" (The only engine owned by the Liverpool Overhead Railway Company) with similar short wheelbase and small boiler.
