- “Hello."
"I'm not talking to you!” - ― Neville and Thomas
Thomas and the New Engine is a magazine story, illustrated using photographs from the television series.
Plot
One morning, the Fat Controller tells his engines that a new engine called Neville has arrived on the Island of Sodor and Neville is a steam engine that has a square body like a diesel.
Later on, Thomas sees Neville with 'Arry and Bert. They are teasing him, but Thomas thinks Neville is laughing with them and assumes that the new engine must be friends with the diesels, too.
Thomas meets up with James later that day. Thomas tells James that he saw the new engine laughing with 'Arry and Bert. James is shocked at the prospect of a steam engine being friendly with the diesels.
Thomas arrives at Abbey in time to see Neville come along with Annie and Clarabel. The new engine greets Thomas, but Thomas ignores him so Neville steams quickly away.
Soon, Neville comes to a barrier across the tracks, but he cannot stop in time. He crashes through the barrier and onto a broken bridge. Neville dangles over the edge of the bridge dangerously. Thomas comes to Neville's rescue and hauls him away from the bridge. Thomas then apologises for being so rude and Neville is happy to know he has a friend in Thomas.
